The Sherman Clay Group began investing in commercial real estate in 1977. Operations have been carried out through SClay Management, Inc. The portfolio has grown primarily through the acquisition of shopping centers located in well established trade areas. The Sherman Clay Group and its affiliates own 12 neighborhood and community shopping centers in 4 states, primarily in the Southwest. The properties aggregate almost 900,000 square feet of building situated on over 3,400,000 square feet of land. In addition, there are several parcels of unimproved land. The diversified portfolio includes more than 190 leases with different tenants. Major supermarket and drug chains include Walmart Neighborhood Market, Save Mart, Ranch Market and Rite Aid. Major specialty tenants include Office Max, Tuesday Morning, Harbor Freight Tools, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, Wells Fargo Bank, AT&T Mobility, Aaron Rents, Rent A Center, Wells Fargo Bank and Mancini’s Sleep World. The Sherman Clay Group’s renovation program is ongoing. This activity involves new fascia, landscaping, paving lighting and tenant sign program as well as adding new retail space.
